Waves of adversity

Tides of trouble come to all, yet each storm is personal and different. Some waves are relentless and predictable. Others rise and crash over us as unforeseen crises.

Perhaps, time and reality have weathered the image of the trouble-free Christian life you once imagined, and now, even a mundane kind of life seems like bliss.

Wave after wave washes over you, and gasping for breath you resign yourself to the prospect of being swept away.

Look up! Reach out to Jesus.

He is the one who pulled Peter out of the deep sea that threatened to engulf him (Matthew 14:29-31). Jesus was also the one who prayed for Peter, that his faith would not fail (Luke 22:32). And Jesus is the one who is there for you!

Whether your troubles are the result of your decisions, someone else’s actions, or the imperfections of life - be assured, the devil does not have free reign to do as he pleases. He is subject to the authority of God just as the laws of nature are. The Lord Almighty determines the limits of the raging sea. As the psalmist says, “At your rebuke the waters fled, at the sound of your thunder they took to flight. You set a boundary they cannot cross.” Psalm 104:7, 9.

However relentless the waves of trouble,
God has set a boundary they cannot cross.

That means, the waves cannot engulf you or wash you away. You are completely safe! Jesus is there to grab hold of you, and He will lead you to higher ground.
